Green Smoothies

These are a great way to get your 5-a-day…and then some. With just fruit, greens, and water they provide loads of nutrients and make a yummy, satisfying snack or breakfast! They can even help in reducing food cravings. Bonus!

Take out your blender (better yet, just leave it out on the counter!). Throw in your fruit of choice. I love 1-2 bananas and a 1/2 bag (about 5 oz) of frozen mango. Add 2 cups of good water. Blend until smooth. Add a handful or two of greens. If you are new to this start with spinach (but try as many greens as you’d like…kale, romaine, dandelion, sprouts, swiss chard, etc). Blend. Add more water if you think it is too thick. I recommend about 32 oz. a day. I enjoy 16 oz as a late morning snack and then the rest as a late afternoon snack. Or sometimes I have my Green Smoothie for breakfast.

Here is a video I did a bit back that will show you just how to do what I described above:

And here is an interview I did four years ago with Victoria Boutenko author of Green for Life and the Godmother of the Green Smoothie. More about Victoria here.

I do want to be sure to give a shout-out to the Green JUICE as well. I love love love green juice (organic cucumber, celery, greens put through a juicer) but I find Green Smoothies to be more convenient and economical. Either way, they are both a rockin’ way to get nutrients to our bodies.
